Sealing & Contamination Control Tips

Image
One of the things that a fluid power technician learns very early is that there are two main characteristics that must be controlled in any hydraulic system and those are contamination and sealing.  For that reason, we started our website and e-newsletter titled Sealing & Contamination Control Tips a few years ago. I invite you to visit this website  for information about both topics including press releases about innovative sealing devices and filtration components as well as application success stories.  If your company makes products in either of these groups, I invite you to send us content to publish on this website. Those interesting stories are picked up and distributed to our 38,000 subscribers of our e-newsletters so that the content is made more available to them.  We do offer advertising in the form of banners on our website and textbox ads in our e-newsletter.   For more information about advertising or publicity, please contact me at mference@wtwhmedia.c

Your participation is simple, just place an ad of any size in this issue and we will be in touch with you to put together a profile page customized for your company.  You can show your products, technical capabilities, describe your service and delivery, and any other matters of interest to our 40,000 readers. Our team will judge a leader in every category including fluid power and you will be recognized in an upcoming issue.  I hope that you will join us in 2019 in providing our readers with the very latest engineering content available

2018 WorkBoat Show - really cool!

Image
I had the privilege of attending the 2018 International WorkBoat Show in New Orleans this week.  It was a huge success in two ways. 1.  It was a great show with lots of fluid power components on display.  There were some boats too! Being at this show and talking with many exhibitors, both fluid power and other boat supplies, I have come to realize what an important market the work boat market is for our industry.  There are many applications where the power, precision, and durability of fluid power systems are required.  Not only that, but the sheer number of fluid power companies at the WorkBoat Show make it a significant fluid power event. 2.  This was my first time visiting New Orleans and I was very impressed in several ways.  It is a scenic and historic city, the people are very friendly, and the Big Easy is just that, a laid back place. I took a quick stroll down Bourbon Street and had the opportunity to sample some authentic New Orleans cuisine too.  Inclu

As we move into the final few months of 2018, most of my efforts on behalf of fluid power clients is planning for a great 2019.  Once again, Fluid Power World offers marketers many great opportunities to connect with customers and prospects to gain new business. Two very important facts that are the foundations of our business is that media consumption has changed and continues to change giving consumers many choices on how they would like to receive information.  The other is that marketers demand ROI on all of their marketing efforts. Mining Machinery Covered in December

Image
The December 2018 issue of Fluid Power World will take a look a the many functions performed in mines that are made possible the by the use of hydraulics.  When operating machinery in harsh environments with very heavy loads, there is no more reliable technology than hydraulics. The mining industry has shown some recovery from some difficult years making it an interesting market again.  Our coverage of this market is still very timely and our December issue offers mobile hydraulic component manufacturers an opportunity to advertise in an issue focused on mining applications. Every issue of Fluid Power World features multiple end use markets as well as explaining how components work.  Take advantage of the strength of the mining market by reserving your advertising space for our December issue before November 20, 2018. Additionally, we do feature mining applications in our Mobile Hydraulic Tips website.  If you have not had a chance to visit this site, here is a link .

A great new customer could be one click away

Image
At Fluid Power World and Design World , we have a robust offering of media opportunities for our advertisers to use in reaching new and existing customers with their sales message. Of course we have our foundational print magazines with Design World being published monthly and Fluid Power World seven times per year. Every issue of both publications is filled with great content and people do still like to read magazines.  If they did not, they would probably opt our of future issues being delivered to their mailboxes. You probably already know about our network of websites.  Ads for our customers appear on the whole network or on the websites of their choosing. Ads on our websites do generate clicks to the advertisers websites, but their biggest job is creating brand awareness through impressions. The clicks come from e-mail based advertising and we are very strong at that.  Each one of the above titles has an e-newsletter attached to it that is sent to an

One of the best ever ...

Image
I had the privilege of attending the 2018 Fluid Power Distributor Association (FPDA) annual meeting in Lake Tahoe last week.  First of all, Lake Tahoe and the whole region around it is beautiful.  Secondly, the Resort at Squaw Creek was incredible. Having the Annual Summit Meeting of the FPDA and the International Sealing Distribution Association (ISD) at this beautiful venue set the foundation for an amazing few days.  Add to that, some of the best speakers makes this a memorable event.  The two associations, FPDA and ISD joined forces several years ago to take advantage of the adjacent technologies, fluid power and sealing. Tim David held us all captivated with his presentation titled 7 Magic Words.  Beth Ziesenis told us more about apps that I would have imagined existed in her presentation Secret Tech Weapons for Distribution.  There were many opportunities for networking, a fun brewery visit, great meals, and a really cool 80s Bingo party at the end.  That's r

Keeping Your Compressed Air Just Right

Image
Coming in our October issue of Fluid Power World will be an article on "Designing With FRLs" as clean, lubricated compressed air is essential for many applications. Plant-supplied compressed air often travels a long and varying path from the air compressor to where it is connected to a machine or piece of equipment. Along this path there are many opportunities for contamination via dirt, dust, oil, water, and other impurities. Therefore, compressed air must be filtered at the supply point, and it must also be safely controlled, filtered, regulated, and sometimes lubricated—all in the proper order—at the machine level. This article will discuss what an air preparation assembly should include and why, and will also show how to calculate required flow rates.  As in every issue of Fluid Power World, you find great content on pneumatic systems, You will also find  such useful and interesting information on our Pneumatic Tips website: If your company makes

Visit Our Virtual Classroom

Image
As the Information Age continues and we in the media find more ways to deliver information to our audiences, we at Fluid Power World have introduced another platform that we are calling our Virtual Classroom.   This new feature is kind of a hybrid between video and webinar. Our advertisers all have great stories to tell about their solutions and products.  The webinar delivers that information to our audience while the video intro gives the presentation some personality.  Additionally, with a batch of these presentations, we can promote the whole lot. Our value offer to our readers is this, Visit our Virtual Classroom section of Fluid Power World and select the session that you would like to view for free!  We already know that these sessions are both interesting and informative and focused on fluid power.  When viewers attend, they will tell others about the value. If your company would like to participate with your story, just let me know and I can set it up.  Be a par

Understanding Robotics

Image
The Fluid Power Industrial Consortium is a collaboration between the National Fluid Power Association and the Milwaukee School of Engineering.  It is held at the Intercontinental Milwaukee hotel. Speaking of collaboration, the program started out with an explanation of collaborative robots by Bryan d'orville of Fanuc America-Robotics.  Here is a summary of where we are with collaborative robots: He also addressed IoT and where it is at this time.  Industrial IoT is a subset of this very exciting technological development that connects machines, people, and processes. The next presenter is Peter Gratschmayr of Midwest Engineering Systems Group. His presentation was titled Robotic Automated Solutions for Manufacturing Fluid Power Components.  He talked about integrating a variety of mechanical and electrical subsystems, hardware, and software into a complete robust solution utilizing the most current sensory, end effector, vision systems, motion control,
